Ezhumanthuruthu is a small "thuruthu" ie island situated 8 km west of Kaduthuruthy town. It falls in Kottayam district, the city of letters. It is a densely populated place of Kaduthuruthy Gram Panchayat.The place is also blessed with the presence of the ancient Devi temple Kunnummel Kavil situated on the top of the Ezhumanthuruthu Hill from where you can have a beautiful view of the surrounding places upto the radious of 10 to 15 kilometers.Now this island village which was unreachable without the help of a country boat is connected with well built high ways with Vaikom, Thalayolaparambu, Kaduthuruthy, Muttuchira, Kallara and other places.

Population comes around 3500. Area comes about 2 square kilometers. It is a twin "thuruthu" comprising of the main land Ezhumanthuruthu and another small thuruthu called Pulithuruthu. The adjoining place to the east is the famous Ayamkudy and on westwards the popular water logged place of upper Kuttanad known as "Mundar estate". The populace of Ezhumanthuruthu is 90% of agriculture labours and small or medium farmers.One can reach Ezhumanthuruthu straight from nearby town Thalayolaparambu by road of 5 km or from Kaduthuruthy town. The nearest railway station is Kaduthuruthy railway station, it is about 6 km away from this place. Long ago, the place was surrounded by rivers. Now any one can access through road.



Ezhumanthurutu is a beautiful island surrounded by Kariyar and Kalathodu near Kaduthuruthy. Mundattel Velu who was once regarded as a great personality of this area lived here at Puthan Pura house. This house was the shelter for many communist leaders like P. S. Srinivasan, Thalavadi Papachan etc during the pre independence and post independence era. His grand daughter Capt. Sarada, a Child Specialist was the first person to go outside the state for a job and served in the Indian Army and held the position of Captain in the Army hospitals in Ladak, Hyderabad and Kolkatta and from there she went to Kuwait and served there for about fifteen years. His sons Dr. Pushpan and Dayandan along with the young Generation like Prabha, chandran etc have contibuted a lot to the welfare of the people of Ezhumanthuruthu.

Aruvikkuzhi Waterfalls
This fascinating waterfall descending from a height of 100 ft is located 2 km from Kumarakom. It is a picturesque picnic spot with roaring sound of flowing water and sparking streams meandering through the landscape.

Pathiramanal
Pathiramanal, meaning (sands of midnight), is an island with enthralling beauty on the island on the Vembanad Lake and is accessible by a boat from Kumarakom .This backwater island is the abode of many exceptional and unusual kind of migratory birds who migrate from various parts of the world. Thus this bird sanctuary of Kumarakom is an ornithologist’s paradise as it is the favorite stamping ground of migratory birds such as cuckoo, darters, egret, herons, teal, and so on. Vembanad Lake

The Ettumanoor Shiva Temple
Which lies 12 km north of town, has exquisite wall paintings and sculptures inside the temple. The renowned Thirunakkara Mahadeva Temple is situated in the core of Kottayam town.

Vaikom Temple
This Shiva temple is believed to be related with the legendary figure- Parshurama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. This temple is a magnificent work of art and exhibits the classical style of Kerala Temple architecture.

Elaveezha Poonchira
It is a hill station which is an ideal place for picnics. It has a pool with picturesque beauty and legends say that this pool was used as a bathing place by Draupadi, the legendary persona of Mahabharata. You can trek on the enormous hills of 'Elaveezha poonchira' - a valley where no leaves fall and is named so because this place is devoid of trees.

Erumely
This is an important pilgrim site both for the Hindus as well as the Muslims. Sree Dharmasastha Temple here is an ancient shrine dedicated to Lord Ayyappa.

The Vembanad Lake
The rivers and canals of the Kottayam region all gather and empty in to the Verbanad Lake. The lake area provides a good location for picnic amidst the natural surrounding. The lake is being transformed into a back water tourism destination providing activities like boating, fishing and sight seeing.

Aranmula
Aranmula is the place of the impressive boat races of the illustrious Onam festival in Kerala. Barded elephants with beaded umbrellas, boats adorned with flowers and so on make it a fascinating event to witness. Aranmula is also the centre where the bell metal mirror crafts are available.

Vagamon
Vagamon, located at an altitude of 1100 meters above sea level is a trekker's paradise. It is an ideal tourist destination and is encircled by lush tea gardens, spectacular meadows and valleys.

Water Bird Sanctuary
One of the significant back water destination is the 14 acre bird sanctuary situated on the eastern banks of the Verbanad Lake. The sanctuary which is the hotspot of the different species of birds as well as the migratory ones .there are to be found water fowls, water ducks, cuckoos, wild ducks,egrets, darters, herons, teals, and the migratory Siberian cranes. Nearby lies the rubber plantations in Kottayam where the churches are also grand.

St.Mary's Cathedral Church
St Mary's is a small church in Vazhappally Village, part of the Cathedral church and the Arch Diocese of Changanacherry, Kerala. It was first established in 1177, and reconstructed and consecrated in 1887.More than 125 families are gathering here for daily masses and other prayers.The Cathedral church is located on Market Road, about half KM from Changanassery town. Ettumanoor Temple
Located 12 kms north of Kottayam town, at Ettumanoor is an ancient Shiva temple, which was built in the 16th century. Ettumanoor temple is a marvelous example of the Kerala style of architecture, attracts many Hindu devotees from all over the state. The copper plated conical roof of the central shrine, is in itself a majestic structure.The present temple building, with its gopuram and the fortress around it, was reconstructed in (1542 AD). The mural paintings on the walls inside and outside the gopuram are quite famous. The images of Balagopalam and other Devas are painted with high artistic ingenuity. The golden flag staff inside the temple is a beautiful sight. On the top of it is the image of a bull surrounded by a small bells and metal leaves of the banyan tree. Maramala Waterfall
Maramala Waterfall lies a few kms away from Eerattupetta. It is exactly 7 kms from Teekoy rubber estate. From here a private vehicle can take you further 2 kms after which the road is not motor able. To reach the falls one has to trek through the estate over the rocky path. The waterfall is about 60 metres in height, falling into a 12-meter deep pool and joins the River Teekoy way down.From there, it's easy to trek trough the estate and get there.The waterfall cascades from a height of 60 meters and slides down about 200 meters to meet the Teekoy river.....more
