Palakkad Fort:

One of the best-preserved forts in Kerala in the heart of Palakkad town, which dates back to 1766 A.D. It was built by Sultan Hyder Ali of Mysore, supposedly to facilitate communication between Coimbatore and West Coast. In 1784, after a siege lasting 11 days, the British colonel Fulletron stormed the Fort. It latter fell into the hands of the Zamorins troops but was recaptured by the British in 1970. The Archeological Survey of India now preserves it.

Kollengode Palace:

19 Kms. South of Palakkad, Kollengode (the abode of blacksmiths), enriches the pristine beauty of rural Palakkad. The Kollengode Palace, the Vishnu Temple and the poet P. Kunhiraman Nair memorial, are worth visiting. Seethakundu and Govindamali hills, near Kaachanakurichi are ideal and for adventurous trekkers.

River Kanjirapuzha:

Kanjirapuzha (River Kanjira) is a magnificent lake. An evergreen forest, the 'Vettilachola', provides the backdrop to the lake, surrounded by hillocks. During the rainy season, the mist-draped mountains create a picturesque landscape.

Chulannur Peacock Protection Centre:

Mailadumpara, in Chulannur situated 22 kms away from Palakkad town and 5 kms from Peringothukrish, is also famed. It is here the peacock protection center is located. Kunjan Nambiar Smrudhi forest is also here.

Silent Valley National Park:

It is a dense rain forest located along the western corners of Nilgiris having an area of around 90 square kilometers. It is nearly 60 kilometers far from Palakkad and 90 kilometers from Coimbatore. Silent Valley got this name because of the poetic silence at this forest and it is just because of the absence of cicadas, which is common in all forests. The forest is famous for the very rare Lion-Tailed Macaque. The Silent Valley also known as Sairandhri Vanam. According to Hindu mythology Sairandhri is the other name of Draupadi who is the wife of Panadavas in MAHABHARATHA epic. Trekking is possible at this forest with prior permission.

Walayar Dam:

It is located about 25 kilometers from Palkkad town in the Kerala Tamilnadu border. The dam is meant for irrigation purpose. There is a deer Park located 3 kilometers from Walayar.

Kalpathi is the most famous 'Agraharam'(Street occupied by Brahmins) in Palakkad and one of the 18 Agraharams(Brahmin residing streets) in the state. 75Kms from Palakkad, Nelliyampathy is a forest range, which comprises a chain of ridges cut off from one another by valleys of dark evergreen forests of the Sahya Range in which can be found very valuable teak of extra-ordinary height and girth. At a height of 1467 to 1572 meters above sea level is a fascinating hill station with cool climate, which offers a panoramic view of about one third of Palakkad.

Meenvallam:

A Meenvallam waterfall is around 8kms from Thuppanad junction on the Palakkad- Manarkkad route. It is a combination of enchanting beauty and scenic splendor. The water falls from nearly 20 to 25 feet and the depth is around 15-20 feet. There are 10 steps of waterfalls of which eight are located in the upper hills inside the dense forest.

Jain Temple:

The 2,000-years-old Jain temple at Jainmedu is the remnant of what was once a thriving community of diamond traders. Four hundred Jain families lived here, with 24 wells, each dedicated to a tirtanker, till Tipu's invasion drove them to Wayanad. Descendants of one family are the keepers of its fascinating history.

The Chulliar dam is a masonry gravity dam for a length of 555 m and Zonal type earthen dam for 1200 m. The maximum height of the dam is 30.50m and the capacity of the reservoir is 13 .70 Mm3. The water-spread area. is 165 sq.km at FRL and the catchment area is 27.80 sq.km. The ayacut of the project is 2430 Ha. Meenvallam waterfall is around 8kms from Thuppanad junction on the Palakkad- Manarkkad route. It is a combination of enchanting beauty and scenic splendor. The water falls from nearly 20 to 25 feet and the depth is around 15-20 feet.There are 10 steps of waterfalls of which eight are situated in the upper hills inside the dense forest.
